Submission Guidelines
DIGITAL SUBMISSIONS INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1-The Form
1. Download the submission form as a Word document and fill in your information, then rename the Submission Word Document in this form:
Last name_first initial_title_FORM
Example: Doe_j_elephants_FORM, for a poem Jane Doe wrote about elephants. The use of FORM at the end helps us differentiate between the submission form and the work itself.
2. Renaming things is really easy. Just click “save as” from your tool bar and type in the new name.
STEP 2-Formatting The Piece You Wish To Submit
3. Rename your original document containing your poem, prose, photography, or art using the same model, except do not put FORM at the end.
Example: Doe_j_elephants
4. Remove any identifying information on the actual work (for example, do not put your name at the end of your short story).
STEP 3-Emailing the form and the work
5. Attach the submission form and the work you wish to submit to an email and send it to amlit.submit@gmail.com.
6. Please write what medium your work is in the subject line. (Example: “Prose”).
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT:
SUBMITTED WORK AND SUBMISSION FORMS MUST BE RENAMED AS LAST NAME_FIRST INITIAL_TITLE, and LAST NAME_FIRST INITIAL_TITLE_FORM. IF YOU ARE SUBMITTING MULTIPLE PIECES, SEND SEPARATE EMAILS. EACH EMAIL SHOULD CONTAIN ONLY ONE PIECE OF WORK AND THE CORRESPONDING FORM.
DIGITAL SUBMISSIONS FAQ’S
1. Can I attach 8 submissions to one email?
Nooooo! Each email you send us may only have TWO attachments—the work itself and the corresponding submission form. This may mean you have to send multiple emails. If we open an email and it is a Christmas tree of attachments, we will not consider those works for submission.
2. When are submissions due?
All submissions are due by February 17 by 5PM, whether you are submitting hard copies to the Student Activities desk or submitting digitally.
3. What if my piece doesn’t have a title?
If you piece doesn’t have a title, follow this model: last name_first initial_untitled1. If you have multiple pieces that are untitled, number each of them sequentially.
4. This is really confusing. Do I have to submit my work digitally?
Absolutely not! If this doesn’t work for you, you can always apply the old-fashioned way. Simply print out a hard copy of your work and take it to the Student Activities desk on the second floor of Mary Graydon, fill out a submission form there, and drop it off there.
5. Can I slip my submission under your office door?
Nooooo! All submissions must be either submitted digitally to amlit.submit@gmail.com or they must be dropped off at the Student Activities desk.
6. Is there a limit to how many things I can submit?
Photo submissions are limited to 15 photos per artist. All other genres have no limits–however, please be reasonable!
7. You didn’t address my FAQ! What do I do?
Email amlitmag@gmail.com with your crazy question and we will get back to your promptly.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART
1. Photo submissions are limited to 15 photos per artist.
2. Art and Photography MUST be submitted in 300 DPI. If your photo is not given to us in at least 300 DPI or printable quality we will not be able to consider it for submission.
3. When submitting a photo or photo of art, do not resize the photo in the email attachment. Send the best quality photo you have. If your file is simply too big, print off a hard copy and submit it manually to the Student Activities Desk.
4. If you are concerned about how your art looks in a photo, email amlit.art@gmail.com and Art editorial team will work with you on how to best represent your work at the AmLit review session.
